Depicted here are sailboats alongside the pine-clad sandbar of Ama no Hashidate in northern Kyoto prefecture, one of the Three Views of Japan (Nihon Sankei). The other two 'Views' are the pine-covered islands of Matsushima in Miyagi Prefecture and Itsukushima Shrine in Hiroshima Prefecture. All three are designated Special Places of Scenic Beauty.
